At our school the massage classes are held Monday through Friday.


Students have the option of attending:

Morning session: 9am - 1:30pm

Night session: 5pm - 9:30pm

*We may cancel either classes if we don't have enough students enrolled.

Variety of modalities:

Lomilomi Massage- was interwoven within the historic and ancient Hawaiian cultural, religious, and spiritual experience. During these classes, we will explore history, as well as practice and demonstrate the massage manipulations and techniques that make it unique.


Our Sports Massage- classes prepare you to address basic needs of athletes with issues. Techniques will include trigger points, compression, friction, petrissage, stretching, and range of motion exercises. Many techniques are taught to enhance performance, to prevent injury, and to decrease time needed for the athlete to recover.


Shiatsu Massage- Shiatsu is a Japanese massage modality which means “finger pressure.” It originated in China, known as Ammo or Do-in. It is based on the Chinese concept that the body is series of energetic pathways which contain points called “tsubos.” When the “tsubos” are pressed, energy flows thought the body and becomes balanced. A balanced body is said to a healthy body.

Seated Massage- When you become a student at Hawaii Massage Academy, you will learn a massage sequence using massage chairs that can be taken into the workplace. These manipulations are a combination of Shiatsu, Anma, and Swedish, that are performed with the client fully clothed.


Hawaiian Hot Stone Massage- When you become a student you will learn how pohaku is heated and integrated in an ancient massage sequence! In these classes you will discover how to open the Chakras of the body to the life force of the universe to enhance the experience with guided visualizations and exotic sounds.


Foot Reflexology- This reflexology is a specialized technique that focuses on the feet of individuals. Used as a healing art, foot massage has a far-reaching effect throughout the entire body. Hawaii Massage Academy will focus instruction on learning the various sequencing and hands-on manipulations techniques.

We offer a comprehensive massage class in the structure and function of the human body, emphasizing the skeletal, muscular, and organ systems.


Pathology is the study of disease—to practice safety, massage therapists need a basic understanding of the pathological processes.


Structural kinesiology is the study of the articular system and types of movements permitted by diathrodial joints.

Theory and Demonstration of Massage

During these massage classes, you learn the proper procedure of massage concerning the protection of both client and therapist. You also learn about record keeping, hygiene, theory, technique for specific conditions, contraindications of massage, draping, and the assessment of the client's condition as well as the general technique to be applied. After completing the training during our massage classes, you will be able to perform:

 *Learn our patented 1-hour full-body massage. It combines Swedish (Classical Western Massage) with elements of Shiatsu (Japanese), and trigger-point therapy(American). This modality reflects the cultural diversity that is unique to Hawaii.

Preparation for State of Hawaii Massage Therapy Written Examination

The  Hawaii Massage Academy prepares you to take and successfully pass the state examination.

We have successfully trained more than 4,000 students!

The HMT program is 640 hours and 30 weeks in duration. It satisfies the minimum requirements of the State of Hawai’i and is considered an entry level program. Students enrolled in this program receive academic and practical training in the classroom environment during the first eight weeks. The remaining 22 weeks are devoted to self-paced supervised practical training in the Hawai’i Massage Academy Clinic.

The National Massage Therapy Program

The National Massage Therapy (NMT) program is 750 hours and 35 weeks in duration. This program prepares the student for the MBLEx exam. Students enrolled in this program receive academic and practical training in the classroom environment during the first eight weeks. Students then receive an additional five weeks of the Advanced Modalities listed below.

The remaining 22 weeks are devoted to self-paced supervised practical training in the Hawai’i Massage Academy Clinic. An additional two weeks are devoted to instruction in Anatomy, Physiology, and Kinesiology, Medical Terminology and Professional Record Keeping, and Pathology for the National program.

This includes the hands-on or clinical phase of the program. All students must complete 13 weeks of consecutive training. Each week contains 5 training sessions, and each session must be 4.5 hours in duration.

HIMAC Welcomes International Massage Students

We  welcome students from foreign countries to study at our school. This school is authorized under Federal Law to enroll non-immigrant alien student. 


With that all foreign students with M-1 visas are welcome to attend our institution. You may visit our Japanese page for more information or call our offices to ask questions.

Classes are held every January, April, July, and October. Each student must attend approximately 12 months of training for this opportunity to obtain license. Curriculum can be shorter if not intending to apply for US license.
